The hemp plants have started becoming very much popular among people after the enactment of the Farm Bill in 2018. Through this bill, the Federal government of America made the cultivation of hemp plants in its national territory legal. However, most people know the hemp plant only as of the source of CBD products and hemp oil. The hemp plant is much more than that. Farmers have been using the hemp plant as a crop to restore potential nutrients in the soil for a long time. It is also used by many people to remove soil contamination and restore groundwater levels.

How Do Hemp Plants Purify Soil?

The hemp plant has the property to absorb minerals from the soil. If the hemp plant is grown in a place that is contaminated with harmful metals and minerals, the plant will absorb everything from the soil along with all the essential nutrients and water. This same property of the hemp plant is restricting farmers to use chemical fertilizers and pesticides during its cultivation. If people are using chemical products, the hemp plant will absorb the same and its traces will be visible in all the extracts from the plant.

Why People Are Growing Hemp Plant In Chernobyl?

Chernobyl is a place in Russia. You might have heard of the Chernobyl nuclear explosion. A nuclear power plant located at Chernobyl exploded and that place is still not safe for living. Currently, the Russian government is growing hemp plants in this place because it is effective in removing radioactive metals like cesium and strontium from the soil. In addition to that, this plant will also help in recharging and filtering the groundwater in this area. Some farmers of a place called Taranto have also considered this method and have succeeded in filtering the soil in their region which was contaminated by the pollutants from a nearby steel plant.

Can We Use These Hemp Plants For Anything Else?

The hemp plants that were used for filtering soil cannot be used for making any CBD products because they will have traces of the harmful chemicals in them. However, as mentioned earlier in this article, hemp plants are used not only for making CBD and hemp oil but also to produce textiles. Therefore, the plants which were used to remove contaminants from the soil can be used in the textile industry. But in most cases, the plants which were used to purify the soil are not used for anything else because they will have many harmful chemicals and metal traces in them.

Since the enactment of the Farm Bill, many farmers have started growing hemp plants to obtain CBD and also to improve the yield of their other crops.
